Specimen Requirements
Serum and Whole blood are required for this test
Specimen Type: Whole blood- ABO/RH; Antibody Screen, CBC with Differential; HIV
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: Three 5 ml tubes
Collection Instructions:
1. Label tubes with patient's name (first and last), date of birth, date of draw, and phlebotomist's initials.
2. Send specimen in original tube.
3. Specimen cannot be frozen.
4. HIV- centrifuge and aliquot within 2 hours of collection for BD Vacutainer tubes. Label this tube appropriately (plasma).
Additional Information: Include history of transfusions, pregnancies, drug therapy, and any known antibodies.
