Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Green top (Lithium heparin only)

Venous, arterial, or capillary blood

Microtainer okay.

Specimen Volume: 2 mL.  

Minimum Volume:  0.5 ml

Collection Instructions: Send blood on wet ice.

Specimen Transport Temperature

Preferred to send specimens on wet ice, but not required. Specimen stability does NOT exceed 30 minutes from collection time even if placed on wet ice.
