Multiplexed PCR
Note: The Enteric Pathogens Panel replaces the traditional stool culture.
The Enteric Pathogens Panel detects the following targets:
Campylobacter Group
Salmonella Species
Shigella Species
Vibrio Group
Yersinia enterocolitica
Norovirus
Rotavirus A
E. coli shiga-like toxin 1 and 2 (Enterohemorrhagic E. Coli that can cause Hemolytic Syndrome)

Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Specimen Type: Fresh, random stool
Container/Tube: Sterile container
Specimen Volume: Entire collection
Collection Instructions:
1. Label container with patient’s name (first and
last), medical record number, date and actual time of collection,
and type of specimen.
2.Raw stool must arrive in lab within 4 hours. If there will
be more than a 4 hour delay, specimen should be transferred
to Cary-Blair transport media.
Specimens in Cary-Blair must arrive within < 48 hours of collection.
Specimen Type: Preserved stool
Container/Tube: Para-Pak C & S vials
Specimen Volume: To fill line
Collection Instructions:
1. Use attached spoon from kit to obtain specimen from
different areas of stool, especially where blood and/or mucus is
observed.
2. Add enough specimen to bring fluid to fill line on Para-Pak C
& S vials.
3. Cap and mix vigorously.
4. Label vials with patient’s name (first and last), medical
record number, date and actual time of collection, and type of
specimen.
