Specimen Requirements

Both peak and trough levels are generally obtained.

 

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube:

Preferred:Green top (Lithium heparin/ PST )

Acceptable: Serum (Red top, Gold SST), Na Heparin Plasma (label specimen appropriately)

Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL

Minimum Specimen Volume: 0.25 ml

Collection Instructions: Plasma for a peak level should be drawn 30 to 60 minutes after completion of infusion. Plasma for a trough level should be drawn just before next dose.

Additional Information: Date and time of draw are required.
