Used for monitoring unfractionated (UF) heparin preparations.

NOTE: Use code LAB1787 (Low Molecular Weight Heparin) when measuring low molecular weight heparin preparations.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Light-blue top (3.2% sodium citrate) or dark blue (3.2% sodium citrate)

Specimen Volume: Light-blue top 2.0 ml, dark blue top 3.0 ml

Collection Instructions:

1. Draw a full tube.

2. Centrifuge for 10 minutes at 3000 rpm. Must be centrifuged within 1 hour of collection.

3. If there is a delay in transport of > 2 hours, freeze aliquot immediately at -20o  C and send specimen frozen in plastic vial.

Ambient 4 hours/ Frozen 4 weeks

Reference Values

0.30 to 0.70 IU/ml

Critical value (automatic call-back): > 1.00 UL/ml
