Methodology

This immunofluorescence  test is intended for rapid in vitro diagnostic use to detect the presence of both influenza types A or B in respiratory tract specimens.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Nasopharyngeal wash or  nasopharyngeal swab from Universal Transport Medium

Container/Tube: Universal Viral Transport Medium (red cap)

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), medical record number, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.

2. Collect nasopharyngeal wash using proper technique (or) collect a nasopharyngeal swab using a flexible flocked swab provided in Universal Viral Transport Collection System.

3. Place wash in Universal Viral Transport Collection Medium (red cap) or break off nasopharyngeal swab in the Universal Viral Transport Medium (red cap) for transport.

4. The specimen is stable for 72 hours at 2-25o C in Universal Viral Transport Collection Medium.
