Specimen Requirements

 

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube:

Preferred:Green top (lithium heparin plasma)

Acceptable: Serum (Red top, Gold/SST), Na Heparin plasma (label specimen appropriately)

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Minimum Specimen Volume: 0.25 ml

Collection Instructions: Plasma for a peak level should be drawn 2 hours after administration of drug. Plasma for a trough level (drawn just before next dose) may be more important therapeutically than a peak level.

Additional Information: Date and time of draw are required.
