Specimen Requirements

Place specimen on wet ice and send to CCLS within 30 minutes of draw. No ice required if analysis is done within 30 minutes of collection.

 

Outreach clients: Order CAI (LAB0232140) to be sent to Mayo. Requires a full, spun, and unopened SST tube at least 1.75 mL in a 3.5 mL SST or full serum gel microtainer.

 

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube:

Preferred: Green top (lithium heparin)

Acceptable: Sodium heparin

Venous or arterial blood is acceptable.

Samples cannot be collected in microtainers. No capillary blood samples.

Specimen Volume: Full tube preferred.

Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions: Avoid exposure of specimen to atmosphere.
