Methodology
Blood should be drawn the same as for LA0203760 Type and Screen, Blood, but testing will not be performed. Specimen will be held and converted to Type and Screen, Blood if required during the life of the specimen.

Collection Instructions:
1. While a type and screen can be done for generic purposes as a preadmission evaluation, it is usually done with the possibility of an upcoming transfusion in mind. If that is the case, a very stringent labeling protocol must be followed including:
a. Specimen must be drawn by CentraCare Laboratory Services staff.
b. Exceptions: NICU, ICU, Homecare, CT, OR, and ETC.
c. Specimen label to include patient’s name, medical record number/DOB, date and time of draw, and initials of phlebotomist.
2. Plasma gel tube is not acceptable.
3. Specimen cannot be frozen.
